Brief description<\/strong><\/td>The Abo\u00f1o thermal power plant, the main power generation facility in the Principality of Asturias, has successfully completed its conversion from coal to natural gas, marking a milestone in the region’s energy transition process. This project, led by EDP and Corporaci\u00f3n Masaveu, has been developed over more than 18 months of technical and engineering work, culminating with the commissioning of group 2 of the plant to natural gas and steel gases, thus guaranteeing a reliable energy supply and significantly reducing pollutant emissions. <\/td><\/tr>
Main characteristics<\/strong><\/td>Project objectives<\/strong> Eliminate the use of coal<\/strong> in electricity generation in Asturias. Reduce pollutant emissions<\/strong>: ~100 % particulate matter ~85 % sulfur oxides ~75 % nitrogen oxides ~30 % average CO\u2082. Ensure the continuity of electricity supply<\/strong> for Asturian industry, maintaining more than 550 MW of installed power. Prepare the facility for the future incorporation of renewable hydrogen<\/strong> and alternative gases. <\/td><\/tr>

Other information of interest<\/strong><\/td>It allows the company to continue providing 220kV power service in the center of Asturias, maintaining more than 550 MW of installed capacity. Although the project has focused on natural gas, the facility is ready to incorporate renewable hydrogen<\/strong>, aligning with broader decarbonization initiatives such as Asturias H2 Valley<\/strong>, which seeks to boost the production of green hydrogen throughout the region. <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n
