ITJ awards 13.8 million to 88 employment-generating projects to boost economic development in mining municipalities

The Institute for Just Transition, a body under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), has published the final resolutions of the line of aid for business projects that generate employment, which grants 10.5 million euros to 29 initiatives and can be consulted here hereand the line for Small investment projects that generate or maintain employment, available here here3.3 million, which will enable the promotion of 59 initiatives.

Both calls, corresponding to the Framework Agreement for a Just Transition of Coal Mining and Sustainable Development of the Mining Regions for the period 2019-2027, seek to promote specific business investment initiatives in the areas affected by the restructuring of coal mining and its environment, which generate alternative economic activities that lead to job creation, encouraging a new economic development in these territories.
The awarded projects will mobilize a total investment, public and private, of 85.5 million, linked to the creation and maintenance of 345 jobs.


A total of 59 projects developed in Asturias have been awarded in these calls for proposals: 21 business projects and 38 small investment projects, which will jointly receive 8.2 million euros, which will enable the mobilization of an investment of 58.4 million euros and the creation of 266 new jobs.
By sector, the number of initiatives linked to the industrial sector stands out, accounting for 56% of the beneficiary projects. This is followed by the services sector, with 23%; the technology sector, with 13%; and the tourism sector, with 8%.
These projects include, among others, the manufacture of polyester fiber from PET plastic waste, which will boost the circular economy in the region through the reuse of plastic waste; and the creation of a center for the design, manufacture and distribution of medical-surgical instruments and materials.
