Project | Alimerka’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy |
Promoter | Alimerka |
Brief description | In the last 12 years, Alimerka has been developing a powerful business strategy based on the decarbonization of all its processes. It began in 2012 with the acquisition of 25 electric vans for the delivery of its home orders in the cities, continuing in 2019 with the change of its entire fleet of trucks from diesel to LNG, for which a gas station was installed for refueling the fleet in the logistics facilities of Llanera. With this change it manages to reduce by 20% the carbon footprint associated with its logistics. At the end of 2021, Alimerka consolidates its commitment to sustainable logistics with the acquisition of the first large-tonnage electric truck in Spanish retail. Alimerka currently has 21 100% electric 26-ton trucks and 19 ultra-fast 150 MW chargers at its logistics center in Lugo de Llanera. With these measures it has managed to reduce by more than 55% the carbon footprint associated with its logistics processes and to be recognized as the only company in Spain in the distribution sector with the reputed award granted by AECOC of the 4th Lean&green Star. In addition, Alimerka is firmly committed to the use of renewable energies and in its logistics platforms, it only consumes green energy with guarantees of origin. In 2019 it installed on the roof of the central logistics platform in Lugo de Llanera the largest photovoltaic installation in northern Spain with 7500 panels and 2.41 MW peak installed power. Currently the development of self-consumption projects using solar panels has been growing and now has 24 supermarkets with solar panels on the roof, as well as in other areas of the logistics center such as the visitors’ parking lot. In total Alimerka has 17843 panels installed and a total peak power of 7.39 Mw. These achievements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact. |
