Shared self-consumption in Langreo has been collaboratively promoted by the Langreo City Council, the public housing company Vipasa and the Asturian Energy Foundation (FAEN), with the support of the Cruz de los Ángeles Foundation, Hunosa and the CTIC Foundation. This project stands out for its strong social dimension, as it integrates the promotion of renewable energies with the protection of vulnerable groups, since its direct beneficiaries are residents of social housing.
The initiative is part of the European Horizon Ginnger program, Langreo being one of the six pilot projects in the European Union. The objective of this program is to develop methodologies for the regeneration of neighborhoods based on technological, economic, environmental and social criteria. It represents a model of fair energy transition in an area of mining tradition, promoting citizen participation and the reduction of energy inequalities.
The facility has a solar photovoltaic plant installed in a municipal services building with the capacity to generate more than 35,000 kWh per year. This installation can serve more than 40 social housing units distributed in two blocks of buildings in La Felguera. A particular feature of this community is its integration into a hybrid energy system, since the participating buildings are already supplied with heating through the geothermal heat network of Hunosa’s Fondón well.
